Vin Thaker

Hello, friends and neighbors! 

 

My name is Vin Thaker and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for Waukee school board. 

 

As your board representative, I’ll promote academic excellence for every student, particularly in STEM-related fields. Because I’m passionate about elevating diverse voices and creating equal opportunities, I’ll build close, collaborative relationships with students, parents and guardians, and district leaders.

 

About Me

 

I was born in Bahrain, a small country in the Persian Gulf. I’m a proud immigrant and believe no matter where you come from, achieving the American Dream is within your reach.

 

My wife, Melinda, is a native of the Philippines and we’ve been married for 27 years. In 2000, we immigrated to the U.S. with our two oldest boys. My youngest daughter was born here and is a freshman in Waukee schools. I work full time as a project manager and served as the events manager for Woodland Hills PTO from 2014 to 2017. 

 

My passion is and always has been finding solutions to complex problems to make life simpler. I have an analytical mindset and love watching documentaries to better understand how all things are connected.

 

Appreciating Diversity

 

The Waukee Community School District is growing rapidly, and we have an increasingly diverse population. I’m running for school board because I’m uniquely positioned to understand students and parents from different backgrounds, particularly those from the Indian, Asian, and Arab diaspora. In addition, I’ll bring a fresh cultural perspective to the boardroom. 

 

I believe that every student, regardless of their special characteristics, should learn in a classroom free of discrimination, indoctrination, and ideological activism. My passion for delivering collaborative solutions based on diversity of thought, culture, and perspective positions me as the candidate who will unify differences and help parents, teachers, and administrators work together as one team.

I will work hard to help all students achieve their potential. And here’s how we’ll work together on behalf of our educational community:

 

• Promote academic excellence for every Waukee student and bolster STEM curriculum.

• Support strong, collaborative relationships between parents and guardians, students, and district leaders.

• Provide fiscally responsible leadership and proficient budget oversight on behalf of taxpayers.

• Enable every student to thrive as their true self regardless of who they are, what they believe, or where they’re from.

 

Our children are the future of this country. And while and we might not agree on what that future looks like, there is always common ground to be found. I’ll work to find that common ground for all our kids.
