Hello Waukee Friends and Neighbors!

My name is Jeff Rubino and I’m running for Waukee School Board. I’m passionate about doing all I can to provide every child a high-quality education and working my hardest to help them achieve their fullest potential.

About Me

​

I moved into the district in 1999 and a few years later, my wife and I started our family. We have a Warrior graduate, a Wolves junior, and a seventh grader who – despite his new Wolves affiliation – we always be a Warrior at heart. As for me, I’m the founder and CEO of a fintech company located in Urbandale, and our mission is to help people and fix what is broken. That’s just who I am, and it’s why I do what I do. 

 

Fun fact: I’ve always been partial to the Warriors mascot because my high school, Wapsie Valley, was represented by a Warrior, too. 
 

Helping Students

​

Because all three of our kids have grown up very active in Waukee schools, I’ve had the great pleasure of getting to know many wonderful students, parents, teachers, coaches, and administrators – particularly through athletics.

 

I’ve coached sports within the district for 15 years and was honored to coach my daughter’s soccer and softball teams when she was young. I helped coach Waukee Youth Wrestling for seven years and, for the past five years, I've been a Waukee Youth Football coach. I also serve as president of a nonprofit wrestling academy.

 

Watching these kids grow up, have fun, and work so hard to achieve their goals is truly one of the most rewarding things in my life. For me, it's not about athletic performance. It's about helping kids become better people who take pride in themselves and what they do. The physical, social, and psychological benefits that come from being part of a team – and building a sense of belonging – are so vital to their development. They learn accountability, humility, and the value of strong relationships.

My Promise

​

I promise to do everything I can to help all students achieve their potential. I’ll work closely and collaboratively with parents and guardians, students, teachers, and administrators to make sure every child has an opportunity to succeed. Here are my priorities:

 

• Parents and guardians should have greater oversight of school curriculum. I’ll make it easier for you to learn what your child is being taught and will engage you during the curriculum selection and reviewing process.

• I will drive greater accountability for board members, administrators, and teachers. It’s our job to ensure every student receives a high-quality education. We must set higher expectations here.

• Mental health issues impact our students and their learning, comprehension, and development skills. I’ll work to bring more robust awareness, education, and services to our schools.

• We must set aside our disagreements and focus on delivering exceptional educational opportunities for our children and young adults. I’ll work to unite all of us in this regard.

My work giving back to our community isn’t done. Now that I’m in my last season coaching football, it feels like the perfect time to run for Waukee school board.  My passion for the well-being of our children, both physically and mentally, will always be at the core of who I am. After all, they’re our future.
